the only difference between the DV and the plain AIW seems to be the AIW has 128MB of memory while the DV has 64MB of memory, a fire wire port and the breakout box. ( I thought the AIW had a breakout box.)

this would have both digital and analog camcorders attaching to it, gaming is not an issue

I'd stick with the DV version since it has firewire for your camcorder....the extra 64mb of memory would only be useful for gaming....and probably a bit cheaper.

I heard that the DV version had problem with overheating, so they went back to the analog version. I bought the analog version at Comp USA for $150 ($100 off plus a $50 rebate). I could have had either version, but due to overheating problem, I picked the analog version.

I think you're referring to the TV tuner, in the 7500 it was analog, in the 8500 they went to digital, and in the 9700 they went back to analog

8500 they went to digital
Only for the 8500DV, the AIW8500 has the analog Philips tuner. Also, the 8500DV has the breakout box with both VI and VO connectors, while the AIW8500 has the breakout box with the VI connectors, but uses a seperate multi-gang plug for VO like the other AIW cards.

I'm trying to find some pics of everything but newegg doesn't have the 8500aiw anymore, and the ati website sucks for pics of the 8500 aiw also, they have lots of the dv though
