Well?

Edit: I removed the "depends on the situation and the future" answer b/c it doesn't really solve anything and is the easy pick out of the group.

for an initial meeting i would say the "good looking" compliment, but more often, personality.

Physical.
A complete change of attitude CAN be done, which would improve your personality. But outside of surgery, physical beauty can't be changed easily.

So I'm saying anyone can have a nice personality(some just have to try harder), but you're only born with the physical gifts you were given(good or bad).
I hate being an ugly nice guy.

I would go for both personality and appearance. You dont want her to think you are just a horn dog, but you alway want to let her know you find her attractive!

BTW - love the third option on the poll :)

Any compliment that starts with "the main reason I like you..." is a really sh!tty compliment.

It's a non-answer because women find out that we like hearing this even if it's not true.

People, the thread is about a compliment FROM a woman, not TO a woman.

From a woman? I don't understand...you mean like when they go "Ewww get away from me!"?

Yeah. Its like men do with women when we say their butts aren't big and there breasts are huge.

(I kid, I kid.)

Now that I've actually read the question (postcount++) I will answer.

Physical stuff. Who cares about whether I'm nice or whatever. No woman ever got hot and bothered over some guy she thought was "a nice guy" or "really funny".

Depends, do you want to get laid or have a friend?
1=laid
2=friend
3=prolly neither

Personally I'd take getting laid, I'd rather be friends with guys.

I usually just slap them from across the room with mine if they don't compliment it. ;)

Well, Churchill said something similiar.

Woman to Churchill: "Winston, you're drunk".
Churchill: "And you, madam, are ugly. But I will be sober in the morning, while you will still be ugly."

But it's not like you *did* anything by being physically attractive. Yeah, maybe you take care of your self and work out or something, but that's it. God or genetics or whatever gave you your good looks. No one deserves praise for that. That's why most beauty contests are so stupid. Nobel Prizes and academic acheivement awards, now that may mean something. Rewarding someone for hard work and dedication.

Complimenting someone on physical assests is like complimenting someone on the millions of $$ they inheireted from a rich relative. La-de-da!

(and yes, I *am* unattractive, but that's not the reason for my feelings! :p )

If it's someone I'm dating, then the personality comment. If it's just an acquaintance, then the body comment.
