Once you know one, the other becomes easier.
IMO, the guitar is a bit harder.

I want to learn the accordion. :)

I can read music and have played guitar since I was 8 years old but I really want to learn how to play the piano.

Accordion is so much fun. My grandmother gave me one this summer, and it's been a blast figuring it out.

Eight responses and nary a "skin flute!" among them.....you people are slipping. :p

I play several instruments, but I've always wished I could sing. I can carry a tune, but have about a one octave range....very frustrating.

The violin...I think it would be fun! I can already play the piano, dabbled with the clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and flute. My whole family is very musical! My dad can play any instrument he picks up!

Doesn't make a bit of difference with regard to percussion stuff.

I play both, and am not really that good at either, but comparitively, I am better at the piano than the guitar. IMHO, the piano is probably easier, but I believe that the quality of the instrument(s) you experience is a factor in your judgment of which is easier. My piano was a used one that was very cheap (my parents actually are the ones who own it and got it a long time ago), and as such it has a few keys that require "special treatment", and I try to avoid playing pieces that require those keys, or else transpose them so they do not require the particular keys. However, the few small annoyances of the piano are less than the PITF (that's pain in the fingers, an acronym I just invented) that my cheap "classical" guitar is, so the piano gets practiced more, and I prefer it.

Thus, my advice to you is that, once you pick an instrument, you should spend a decent amount of money to get a high quality one. I didn't do that, and I'm regretting it a lot.

My personal preference for an instrument that I'd love to get and learn how to play (but can't afford, and even if I could, I wouldn't be able to convince the parents to let me have some) is a set of drums. :)

Look dude, YOUR wishes are yours, not ours. I'm sure you already know how to play the skin flute though.

:D:p

all in fun and games, of course.

I'm taking piano lessons now and want to learn to the guitar. I don't really have any ambition to learn other instruments.

I think piano and guitar are hard in different ways. On the guitar, changing the key you're in is as simple as moving your fingers down the neck. Chords are a breeze. The hard part is getting your fingers coordinated enough to move right and developing the hand strength needed to play.

Piano is hard because you have to know what all the sharps and flats are in keys and memorize how to form major chords, minor chords, etc. Pressing the keys is pretty simple, but again it takes coordination to do it right.

I think if you learned the piano first, learning the guitar would be a matter of learning to coordinate your fingers to work the strings.

I'd say the Violin. I was in a play called Fiddler on the Roof. I could have been the Fiddler, but instead I was an actor playing Jacob.

I wish I know how to play a piano. It's kinda impressive if you see a piano and you can sit right down and start playing...
