Which IE to use with clean install of Windows 98?

Just did a clean install of 98. (I would have gone with Win2k, but with the audio app's and card I have, it's not the best choice.) I have heard people saying that it is better to stay with IE4 rather than update to 5.0 or 5.5 . Any thoughts on pros/cons of each one? I am looking more for stability, speed, and not being bogged down. (I'm considering going the 98 Lite route actually.)

Thanks for feedback. 🙂

I'm using 5.5 in WinME with no problems!. Guyz, is there something I should know that I've missed?

Thanx 😉

On 12 computer in our office that had IE 5.5 installed as an upgrade to IE 5, 5 of them now have various problems related both to web browsing and Windows in general. Most of the bugs aren't severe, but one of the systems is half hosed due to it. That's why I don't like it (and it seemed to have a lot of bugs on my home machine in Win2k).

I use IE 5.5 with WinME, and mine works fine as well. Just goes to show that computers are friggin rediculous, and makes you wonder why we trust everything in life to them???

Go with 5.01 SP1, anyway I use IE5.5 SP1 with my Win98 the funny thing is it was not bad but not perfect had the odd "illegal operation " come up when closing IE5.5 down, anyway since I installed OnTrack SystemSuite V3,it removed all the empty unlinked registry files & since then it`s been rock solid,I think IE upgrades don`t do a very good job of cleaning up registry files etc.
