Which IDE drive would you pick?

I'm deciding between the Fujitsu, Maxtor, and Western Digital 40GB drives. They seem to be comparable spec wise, and price wise. Which one would you pick, as far as reliability and tolerance to overclocking? I'm running a 3 year old Maxtor 10GB currently that's been trouble-free since I've had it.

I would pick Maxtor, IMO they make better drives than both Fujitsu and WD. However many would argue that Maxtors are not good for overclocking, that is true 3 years ago, its doesnt apply to their new hdds anymore because they're very tolerable to funny FSBs.

I would definitely pick the Maxtor. I have the Maxtor DiamondPlus 45 7200RPM 30.7GB harddrive, and it has been working flawlessly.

I have a WD 13.6G, a Maxtor 20G and an IBM 30G. Never had any trouble out of any of them. I would say, get the one you can get the best deal on.

Maxtor. Best bang for the buck. I have never had good luck with WD drives, 3 of my last 4 have been returned, thank god WD has a good exchange policy!

IMO = In My Opinion

These which IDE hard drive threads do I want come up at least once a week.

The results are always the same.

About 5 in 10 say IBM, 4 in 10 say Maxtor, and the otheres (WD, Fujitsu, Seagate, etc) get very few votes.

The Maxtor Diamond Max Plus ## and IBM ##GXP series are both excellent you can't go wrong with either. Since IBM wasn't on your list, Maxtor (if you will consider IBM, just get whichever is cheaper or easier to find, both are great).

Of Maxtor, the DMax+60 is the best one currently, failing that, DMax+45. Personally I use IBM 75GXPs in my Rig, but I have friends that use the Maxtors and they are good drives to, and Maxtor has excellent RMA service should you need it.

IBM 75GXP is still hanging in there with the benchmarks even though it's half a year old!

The Maxtor or the WD. The Fujitsu may not provide the performance your looking for.

I'm an IBM or Quantum guy. I've been using Quantums in my computers and others for about 7 years, never a problem.

I have a Quantum 40 gig ata100 7200, i was wondering if i could get another 40 gig drive from a different maker. Will that work for raid support???

best recommendation for most RAID setups is EXACT same make, model, and size HDD

IBM or Maxtor, but IBM performs a little better than a Maxtor (from the benchmarks I've seen). I think the Maxtor is still the cheaper one. If you don't care about that little bit of performance then get
the Maxtor.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm going with the Maxtor, I usually hear great things about them, plus the Maxtor 10 gig drive I have now is 3 years old with no problems.

Sorry to bump this up, but I have to say a few things:

Maxtors current top of the line 7200 RPM drive is probably the best to get (when compared to the IBM 75GXP, Quantum LM, and Quantum AS). It has 20 gig platters, with a max of 60 gigs in a drive.

If you don't get one of those series of drives (in other words, if you don't get Maxtors' 20 gig/platter 7200RPM drive), then get a Quantum Fireball Plus AS, which is better still then a 75GXP.

Failing that, you should get a 75GXP hard drive.. my personal favourite would be the Quantum LM, but you can't find it, and even though it's access times are insanely low (compared to all other IDE drives), they don't quite make up for the Quantum AS, and Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 60 (their 20 gig 7200 RPM drives). If it were just against the 75GXP, there'd be no question! Quantum LM!
