I'm looking for a compact, 1GB MP3 Player and after doing some reseach I've narrowed it down to these three:
-iAudio U2->excellent rating at CNET, can't change color of display
-iAudio G3->better battery life (50h vs 20h of the other two), not compact
-iAudio 5->little bigger than U2, color changing display

Does anybody have any of these? Any recommendations, bad/good experiences, things I should know about before buying any of these?
Or is there another MP3 player that has similar specs but is better?

They are all good..but just ask yourself whether you want a AA/AAA battery or a built in one.

yeah, I finally found out that the main difference between the iaudio5 and iaudio u2 is that the u2 has a built in battery and can only be charged through the USB cable hocked up to your computer unless you purchase the charger. I found the G2 too big so I decided to buy the iaudio 5. I read a lot of really good reviews about it and I also like the bigger screen.

I have a 1GB I5. 1xAAA, gets 10+ hours with a 900mAh battery and APS MP3s. With 850mAh or better, you'll have hours of warning to replace the battery (as such, I've not bothered to do tests, as it has not been a problem)

Note that the G3, and maybe G2 (but don't get the G2), do not come with a keyring a->A adapter, which is very handy, so the player can double as your portable flash drive (I keep updated FF and anti-spyware stuff on mine all the time :)).

Also, IMO, if you don't have a charger, get the Duracell CEF12N. Also, I wouldn't recommend Energizer 850mAh batteries, though it may be just one run of them or something.

I haven't a clue what was up--they work perfectly in anything else.

My thoughts on the charger:

You will likely want to use the case, too, because it's easy to scratch, and as usual, the protector static stickers are hard to get on flush.

Lastly, make sure you have, or will get, some decent headphones (like KSC75). The stock buds aren't bad (Cresyn), but they're not great, either, and are HUGE.

I'm planning on using rechargable batteries (750mAh) with the iaudio 5, does that reduce the battery life and if yes by how much?

I used Rayovac 750s until I managed to kill them, and I got 8-10 hours with no effects, sometimes an EQ (for my E3c).

If you have the 750s, just use them. If you're going to buy some, spend a little extra and get decent 850mAh or higher. The jump really is noticeable.
