Thermalright will spank all the ones you listed.

That is what we call the TRUE for short here.

TR has an extensive history of quality control problems in the area of
FLATNESS.

who wants to spend money on a heat sink fan & then have to return it -
or spend a half day setting up for a lapping session & another half day
lapping the thing ?

i have the Noctua on an E6850 on an Intel 975 XBX, running Vista.
ran perfect, out of the box.

true, if you get the TRU or the TRUE you gain a few degrees Celsius.

has the comparisons.

I stumbled across this cooler, Cooler Master V8. I read some good reviews on it. Gotta love how none of these are in stock anywhere.

Erm, the TRUE doesn't 'spank' a NH-U12P, the difference is marginal. And, the noctua is very quiet.

The true with a 38mm fan, flat base, and a loaded quadcore WILL SPANK a noctuna. (ask F@H and WCG people)

an IFX with a 38mm fan in the middle will spank a TRUE. (Only Air sink i tollerate)

its a matter of what sink is larger when it comes with air and how many and how wide the heat pipes it has...
Not who makes it.

I have the Noctua NH-U12P. It's very comparable to the TRUE, but it comes with 2 very good fans and costs less than it does, and it's extremely quiet. No issues for me with a 920 @ 3.8.

i should also note, mounting pressure plays a hugh role on the true.

thats why people get better performance with each tweek, like the penny mod.

Bigger is always better when it comes to disapation. (did i butcher that spelling). But bigger also = more expensive, and harder to mount.

This is the IFX:

Well I got the CoolMaster V8. It had good reviews and I actually found a place that has it in stock. Thanks for the input everyone.

So you have to lap the TRUE and add a 38mm fan, which the noctua doesn't have.

I dunno, the noctua seems to come pretty close to a TRUE, whilst being very quiet. So sure, maybe you can do 4.0ghz with a TRUE, and a noctua can do only 3.9ghz or maybe 3.8ghz. I'd not call that 'spanking'.

I was very happy w/my Xigmatek S1283 on my Asus P5B-D...

Anything new from them to fit the 1366 processor?

yeah...

but the question is what was the best. :T

Put the same work on all the sinks, and the true stands out. Of course you dont need to work all the sinks, but work the sink, and yea, it takes the crown as best.

Xigmatek has a socket 1366 adapter for the S1283 on their website. Link. Couldn't find it at an online retailer though. But at least they are planning on adapters for their current heatsinks which is good.

That seems to be just a different backplate. But the cooler itself....would need to be larger to fit the larger area of the 1366 cpu. I think one guy at another site said the 1366 is more than 20% larger...

The true with a 38mm fan,.

why a 38mm fan?

I stuck a 120mm fan(sony FDB fan) on the front of mine(TRUE) and angled so air flow is pushed to the back of the case. I then have another 120mm fan on the back of my case to pull air... so i'm getting a push-pull action...kinda.. under full load (seti on all cores) i'm getting temps around 44C.
Q6600 mildly OCed to 3.0 Ghz, Asus P5W DH Deluxe, 4gig (2x2gig) Geil DDR2-800 oc'd to DDR2-900. 2x150gig raptors RAID0. Ati x1800xt.
used to be in an antec180 case... but currently in stacker 832... same results both case.
