Which Heatsink on X2 4600?

I have a choice between the stock heatsink and fan (idles at 44C, seemingly) and an Antec CPU fan that I bought a while ago with a larger mm fan and a copper core. Should I stick with the stock AMD cooling or go with the Antec? I ask because I'm not sure that Antec makes a decent heatsink and I'm afraid to put it on this CPU.

I would think that 44-46C is a bit high on stock cooling and that's with the side of the case off.

is it the stock AMD 4 heatpipe heatsink? those OEM hs/f's are great.. but 44C is kinda high, is your room temp above 75?

Interestingly, both Everest and Speedfan say my CPU speed is at 37C idle. Everest says Core 1 is 31C and Core 2 is 32C with a Generic "CPU" listing of 37C.

Running the System Stability Test in Everest Ultimate, Core 1 is around 44-46C on the Stress Test, Core 2 around 48-50 on the stress test. I assume that's just fine.

First of all, tell us what case you have and how your cooling is done (better yet, give us pics).
Second, is the Antec CPU cooler compatible with your CPU socket?
Those temperatures are higher than they should be (considering my idle of 26C on a 89W Socket 939 Toledo core X2 4200+).

They're idling at 29-30C now, which is much better. I have an Antec Sonata case with a huge Antec fan in the back and the Antec CPU cooler on the CPU now. It has a copper core, so I guess that helps. The BIOS seems to be reading the temperature a bit high maybe?

Should be fine and accurate from what I can see. The Antec Sonata isn't the best when it comes to massive cooling (but then again, neither is my case if I kept it stock).

If you have the 4 HP version just add a stronger 80mm fan to it. I added a stronger fan to mine and i am keeping my 4400+X2 at 21c idle.
