Which headphone? - Out of these choices

Ok, so the mind boggles at the sheer amount of choices for headphones these days. It's truly ridiculous! I've narrowed them down, to the ones I think look good, have decent reviews, and are not excrutiatingly expensive. Out of these, which would you choose?

Sennheiser HD 485 £39.99

Sennheiser HD 555 £49.99

Not sure which to go for, but the average rating for the HD 555's seems to be about 4/5, wheras the HD 485's seem to score 5/5 even with the cheaper price.
Which would you guys go for?

Will £10 honestly buy me better sound quality?

Or would you choose another model?

Thanks!

Check out www.headfi.org - they are THE place to go for headphone advice. Good luck.

Yea, been reading up there alot and have gone with the HD 555, these seem to be the more audiophile choice, entry level to that proffesional market sector.

Just ordered them, really sweet deal at £49.99 from a wholesaler, considering the standard price is £79.99 in the UK. I got them cheaper then most sites sell the HD 485!

On a side and slightly unusual note, the number 5 is also my lucky number (dont ask), and has brought me much fortune many a time throughout my life, the HD 555 naturally appealed to me at first glance because of this more, 'supersticious' detail.
Hopefully these headphones coupled with the X-Fi will bring me more goodness 😀

I love my HD555...just don't go in expecting bass necessarily louder than what you have now. That is not what makes a headphone great. You will hear exactly what you put in.

What do you mean by what I put in?

And yea, I've heard the HD 555's are a little light on the base untill they are burned in after a 100 hours or so of use. But I'm not a huge base junky anyway, so that should suit me fine.
What I want is a realistic sound, with detail and vibrancy, not necessarily heavy and deep in base.

What I mean is if you put in tones...the tones will pass through and not be amplified or attenuated.(obviously it can't be perfect...)

The main thing I notice about them is clarity
