The budget is $2000 give or take a little if its worth it. No tax/shipping included. I also will be getting a stand and probably an extended warrantyhopefully included in my budget. I want the best bang for my buck. I need some guidance on which TV is best for me. It will also be in a well-lighted environment. NO plasma TV's. I need it to be at least 50" so LCD and DLP are in my budget considering the size. Do stores such as best buy and circuit city do price matches with online retailers? Is this a good time to buy a TV? Is the picture quality of 720p vs 1080i much worse? I do plan on playing some video games on this TV. Any suggestions?

Here is what i got so far...

Sony Grand WEGA KDFE55A20 55" LCD Projection TV

Sony Grand Wega KDF-E50A10 50" Projection TV

Samsung HL-R5667W 56" DLP Projection TV

EDIT: took out sxrd due to high price, i didnt see it ;)

i have the kdf-e50a10... and i love it.

i was looking at the sxrd but me being single and living in an apartment... i did not want to invest in a higher end setup... so the e50a10 won hands down... great picture and 3 component inputs is a win-win situation...

edit... i own a hk dvd 22 as my dvd player and it looks phenomenal... along with my xbox 360 at 720p... just stunning...

Im gonna have to go w/Samsung.

I personally like DLP over LCD after doing a couple months of research about 15 months ago when I picked up my first HDTV, and after doing the research it was between Toshiba and Samsung.

I went with Samsung pretty much because the speakers were below the TV instead of on the side of them.

And I couldn't be happier with the decision I made. I went with a 50" and my friend bought a 61" Toshiba a couple months after, and his Toshiba looks just as sharp as Samsung does IMO.

Samsung or the Sony SXRD FTW. I own a Samsung 50" DLP (HL-P5085W) and I more then love it. I can honestly say that the HDTV quality on this set is more then breathtaking.

I do not think BB and CC price match online retailers :(. Now's a good time to buy, but keep in mind that none of these (I believe) have 1080p. While theres no content broadcasting yet in 1080p, and it'll likely be 5+ years until they do, it's something to keep in mind. Even so, theres a big chance you won't even notice the difference with 1080i/720p and 1080p.

720p vs 1080i is an impossible argument. Most people agree that 720p is better for fast moving stuff, like sports, and 1080i is better for movies, etc. but I can't see a difference between the two on my 30" Apple Cinema Display (2560x1600). My 720p DLP plays both 1080i and 720p beautifully, so it's not important.

I believe it was the first and 2nd generation ones (HD1 and HD2 chips).

I have a third generation (HD3 chip) and I have never once experienced lag on any gaming console on mine, and I've had ps2 and xbox and xbox360 hooked up. Although I never had my ps2 hooked up via component.

www.avsforum.com

its a great site with tons of info...

Yup that's where my 2 months of research started :)

I will prolly end up doing the same.

just make sure you go to a buncha different stores and see the actual TV setup in the store. Also keep in mind, when you bring your TV home it'll look even better than in store because their TV's are on all the time and not set optimally.

I went to like 2 CC's, 3 BB's, and Tweeter before I decided which one I wanted.

Out of thoose 4 I would go with the KDFE50A10. I sell these TVs all day every day and that would be my pick. Panasonic would be dead last, their black levels are horrid this year. I pick the 50" over the 55" because of the iris in the 50" helps a decent amount.

Of those 4, I would favor the Samsung by a fairly large margin. I don't care for the pronounced screen-door effect and relatively poor black levels of LCD RPTVs. I bought a new set last fall, and after looking at everything, I felt the LCD sets were unworthy competitors to DLP and LCoS.

I will go to the store woon and compare the two...I am leaning towards the Sony due to the LCD technology, I am not sure what the major picture differences are between the two.

Others may differ, but I find DLP has a more natural, pleasing, film-like picture than LCD. What about LCD do you prefer?

i just went to check them out at CC, and the sony IMO has a better picture. Faces look a little washed out on the samsung. And the colors are not as vibrant, although that may adjustable.

i totally agree with you... the new sony's have great pq. i was dead set on getting a sammy dlp... but after i saw my tv in action with spiderman @ cc... i was dead set on the sony.

also... the black levels are much better with the new gen lcd tvs... especially with the advanced iris on the new sony line. there are many fine tweaks you can perform to get excellent pq.

i honestly dont see my sde... but sse is visible with lighter backgrounds... i am use to it now... but i know if i had my tv further back it would not even be a problem... i have a 50 inch and sit 7-8 feet from it...
