ok so I just bought a used L400. I havent gotten it yet but I know it has only a 10gb drive. Dell has a special today, and they have some good deals on notebook drives. In particular

Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM Travelstar Notebook Drive = $126 (A0398344)

Seagate 40GB Momentus 5400RPM Notebook Drive w/8MB Cache = $77 (A0242099)

Toshiba 40GB 5400RPM Notebook Drive w/16MB Cache $81 (A0398575)

I was wondering which one should I get? Is the 7200rpm gonna make much difference over the 5200rpm? The lappy is only 700mhz, but would having the 7200 reduce a potential bottleneck (i think it has a 4500rpm in it now).

TIA

Yes, the 7200 will make a noticable difference. It does not use much, if any more power, and it is quiet. $126 is a great price. You could ebay that for close to $200.

wow thats a GREAT price for a 7200 RPM laptop drive. I would totaly go with that. I hav ea 5400 in mine and its OK but the 7200 should give you a good noticable amount of improvment.
