In terms of better gaming performance, can a 754 3400(Newcastle or Clawhammer) keep up with a 939 90nm 3500?

I understand the differences between 754 and 939 and the whole upgradability path issue, but I just want to know whether one CPU dominates the other in terms of raw performance.

I don't think there was much of a difference from the 754 3400 and the 130nm 3500.

Thus, you should buy the 3500 for upgradeability.

There are three different 3400+s.

Only the one with 512 KB cache in a 754 socket runs at 2.4 GHz, which would be most benefitial for most applications.
