both 400gb

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (NCQ) 16MB

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 (NCQ) 8MB

i know anand reviewed the 7200.8/8MB recently and it is good but what would the difference be between these drives other than noise?

i guess the real question is: is the 16MB buffer worth possible extra cash?

yeah, ive read the anandtech reviews. moreso wanted to know if its worth the extra cash over the .8 model which was also highly reviewed.

gaming wise....not so much of a diff, maybe a second of load time, right? at least thats what i gathered from the reports

I would not get the .8 model....mine failed after 1 month of use. This is not uncommon with this model.

for reals?

no, I just make up all my posts here...😕

lol. no, i believe you

but is it THAT common? have any link to how common this is?

because the seller of the 10 is being a dick and it looks like the transaction will fall thru, so the 8 is my plan B.....but if they're THAT unreliable now I'm scared and want to justify my apprehension

Get a 7200.9 then... I believe the 7200.8 was that model that had the overheating chips that would cause the drives to fail, a huge recall was instated for those models IIRC.

I find the .10 or PRT (Perpendicular Recording Technology) drives are quieter and faster at the same RPM. I have a pair of Seagate PRT 160s for my laptop, and it definitely improves overall performance.

Is it worth the extra $$$? A lot of that depends on what the delta is, and how important that amount is to your overall financial situation.

My seagate .8 had many bad sectors which caused hangs after 6 months. I strongly suspect that cooling was a big factor. Seagate also quietly modified its .9 design to give better airflow.
The .10 would probably be a safe buy but I prefer samsungs or hitachis.
