looking for help choosing my hard drive for my new system.

I will be using the system for home and some gaming use. No big graphic stuff. Will be running XP home and not using raid. Reliability most desrible, not to noisy and a reasonable speed. My first build and I am a relative newby.

Firstly how much memory do you recomend 60 or 80 gb. I am only using about 8gb on old machine at the moment with win 98, but i will be playing a couple more newer games in the future and i heard xp takes up some room?

Then what brand-Seagate Barracuda IV, Maxtor D740X or Western Digital??

Aus prices are Seagate- 60G $159 80g $189, D740X- 60G $179, 80G $209 WD- 60G $189 80G $199

I have had great results from WD, Seagate, and Maxtor. Out of 30+ Maxtor's I've bought, only 1 has had a problem. Maxor replaced it quickly. IMHO, if you gave me an IBM drive, I would probably give it away rather than use it.

Thanks for your help people, Maxtor 60g sounds good.

Try to get the quiet modle, you cant even hear the drive spinning, although seek noises are the same. You wont regret it though, getting rid of spindle noise can REALLY quiet a computer down.
