I know that many people have horror stories about Maxtor drives, but I'm looking for a new drive and I think I've narrowed it down to three models:

Maxtor Maxline III--16mb cache, SATA 3.0GB/s, NCQ, 300GB 5yr warranty

Maxtor DM10--same specs as above, with 3yr warranty (not sure what the difference is on face value, so the Maxline looks better if going with Maxtor)

Western Digital WD2500KS--16mb cache, SATA 3.0GB/s, 250GB, 3yr warranty, no NCQ

Which is my best bet? I've pretty much owned only WD's ever, and I hear a lot of negative comments about Maxtor's reliability. I like Seagate, but their comparable drives don't have 16mb caches or they are very, very expensive. Any help would appreciated?

I've probably owned more Maxtors than any other brand of drive, going all the way back to the days when 540 megs was huge, and I've had fewer problems with them than WD or any other brand. My worst luck has been with Seagate, one of the best drive manufactures in the business. Between the two I would go with the Maxline

The only thing I know for sure is that any manufacture can make a dud now and then.

Get a Maxline and be happy with it. The new revision Maxtors look awesome. By the way, I have a Western Digital 2500KS and I love it so far. It is very fast and relatively quiet.

Either of those drives will be good. Get the cheapest one with the best warranty.

Western digital is dominating right now.

Fastest 7200RPM drive? WD4000YR.
Fastest sata drive? WD1500ADFD.

I own both of them and I've owned seagate drives all my life until now. Couldn't be happier.
