I've been using a WD 640 GB in my gaming system since July, no complaints.

The platters are denser on the 640 than the 500 and so performance is a little better.

The WD64001AALS Caviar Black is a better performer, but that's a decent price for a good drive.

Or if you don't care about performance that much, look at Western Digital's "Green" drives. They seem to use the least power when idle compared to other drives in the same class.

WD6401AALS - Caviar Black 640GB - 32MB cache - $80
WD6400AAKS - Caviar Blue 640GB - 16MB cache - $75
WD6400AACS - Caviar Green 640GB - 16MB cache - $70

In order of decreasing cost & performance. Only go for the last if you really want to save a trickle of energy every month, the Black and Blue drives outperform the Green by a pretty good margin.

Concerning that Seagate drive (which is considered a very good hdd) some people were experiencing clicking noises when they first launched. Not sure if they still have that problem or not though.

I bought that seagate retail (same model) two months ago. Today I put it into hibernate, brought it back out 5min later, it was a goner; couldn't even detect it from BIOS. :(
