Which Graphics Cards will work for me?

I have a new computer with the following parts ASUS P8H61-M LE DiabloTek Barebones Kit - ASUS P8H61-M LE CSM REV3 Motherboard, Intel Core i5-2400 CPU, Patriot 4GB DDR3 RAM, Seagate 500GB HDD, Lite-On 24x DVDRW, DiabloTek Elite Mid Tower, 450W PSU and i need a graphics card still, but i have no idea which ones are good or compaitble or what, i want a graphics card that can play games like the sims 3 on high settings pretty well. Please let me know if more info is needed

If it's a DiabloTek powersupply I'd suggest getting a better model, those tend to be really weak compared to their label. Having a PSU burn out is no fun, let me tell you.

As to the card, it really depends on resolution and budget. If your typical games are similar to Sims 3 you don't need a powerful card at all. A Radeon 7770 or a GTX 460 would likely handle your needs just fine, for around $100-120. The 7770 has the advantage of running cooler and using less power, probably a good choice for your needs.
 
Well the 6850 has better performance and uses less power as well as costs less than the GTX 460 and is in fact the best price/performance card you can buy so I'm not sure why anybody would recommend anything else as the 6850 is the absolute best card for your situation.
 
FutureFields: a 6850 what? you only gave me a number bro lol, and lets see, im running it off of my samsung 32" hdtv with a resolution of i wanna say to be on safe side 1200x800, only because i know it is not as wide as the screen, i could make it larger but it would be cut off at the bottom.
 
6850 = Radeon HD6850. Most of the time the names end up being shortened to the model numbers. 🙂
 
I'm gonna vote 6850 as well, or 7770. Both are awesome and not too much different in terms of power. On nvidia's side the 550ti will do pretty well for around the same price. If you want something a little better then you'll just want to go up to the 6870. Honestly for the sims at that resolution you probably won't need that at all. Hell even my old budget 5670 would probably run it to some degree.

wow you could not figure out what a 6850 was? lol, if someone says get a 6850 when talking about video cards then that is pretty self explanatory. 😱

and you have a 16:9 tv so use 1280x720 not 1280x800 which is 16:10.
 
thank you jcwagers, and my resolution now is a 1024x768 if i go any higher, like to a 1280x600 or 1280x720 the whole video goes over the borders of the screen. idk if that just because of graphics card because that doesnt make sense to me that by getting a smaller width number it would suddenly not fit. as for the 6850 it looks good to me, but will i have to get a new psu? if so whats the reccomended size to accomodate everything i have?
