Ok so i have been looking for a decently priced graphics card under $200 and i found some on newegg. i am looking at a few 8600gt's and was wondering what was better, a card with 512MB with 128bit or a 256card with 256bit. Also with the core/memory clocks if it was better to have a faster clock speed but only be 256MB vs one that has a slower clock speed and 513MB.(i will be at 1680x1050 if that helps)

comparing these two for instance.

or if i could find an 8800gt around $200 then i might just go with that. i was mainly wondering about MB vs bits. i am somewhat new to video cards.

Skip the 8600 cards, they're not that good at high resolutions. As an FYI, all 8600s are 128-bit, if you were to get an 8600, if you REALLY HAD TO and totally skipped on other, better products such as an HD3850, then go for the 256MB GDDR3 version...512MB DDR2 memory on the 512MB 8600 model doesn't really count for much when it's limited by a 128-bit bus, the GDDR3 will be capable of higher clocks per watt and will therefore produce more performance.

For those prices, mind as well get a 3850, which KILLS an 8600, or hell, if you can find a local Best Buy with an 8800GT at around $240-ish with a $12% coupon, you can get a very good card, lightyears ahead of the 8600, for a bit more on top of the 3850.

If you must stay in budget, I recommend X1950 Pros, they're better at higher resolutions and perform better overall, you're not missing much in the "DX10 Revolution", especially if you're gonna get an 8600 for DX10.
