I can't remember which brand of GPU it was, But a few months ago I remember reading an article about a Nvidia GPU that had it's own software app to Raise the Volts to further push the Core and Mem Clocks when Overclocking. I think it was Galaxy or something.
Also I know ATI has a couple of GPU's that support Raising the Volts with ATI's Overdrive App.
Can someone shed some light on this topic for me?
I am in the market for a new GPU under 250 Bucks Canadian that can Run my New Acer 24 Inch 1900*1200 Res LCD while gaming. I really want to have this new feature to raise the Volts of the GPU when I want extra FPS for Graphically intense Gaming.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which GPU would be a nice improvement from my Current 8800 GTS 320Mb Overclocked @ 648/1620/900 that can pull 11500 on 3DMark06??!!
This is going to be my last upgrade for a while as I need to buy a new car. So please people, I need some help picking a card that will be a big improvement over my GTS. And I have only 300 bucks including the tax.
I have my eye on this EVGA GT

I know it doesn't support the Raising the volts feature that I really want, But if I can't find a GPU that supports that feature, Then I think that would be a good card for the price. Any body care to respond??
What are some other good cards out there in that price range? What about this 9600GT? Is it any good or not.
Thanx people, You have helped me in the past, So I am coming to you again for some much needed advice.

That Gigabyte 8800GT is pretty damn awesome, except I haven't seen it for sale anywhere :(.

ATI cards that support voltage control: X1900 series, 2900 series, *some* 3850's and *some* 3870's. The X1900's are the only ones you can adjust with ATI Tool but they're a dated card, so the rest require a BIOS flash- quite easy if you are able to follow instructions.

Nvidia Cards that support Voltage control: 8800 GT is all that I know of, the rest are either already at their max VID by default or require a pencil/hardmod. The 8800GT requires a BIOS flash for 1.1v last I checked- that should work on *most* cards (default is 1.05v so you might gain a bit but not much). If you can find that Giga card that allows 1.2- that would be your best bet.

As a clarification, you cannot adjust GPU voltage in ATI Overdrive. The only software available that allowed software voltage control in windows was ATi Tool and it hasn't been updated in a while for the more modern cards- so you're looking at a BIOS flash.

Thanx for the reply. Sounds like a good GPU, Nice Overclock on the core, 800MHZ!!
Anyone know which Models of ATI's GPU's support software Volts increase? I know the 2900's let you up the volts, But I am not interested in that GPU.

In relation to specific models, you'll want to keep an eye on this thread and note what cards people are having success with. More info may be available in this thread aswell.

I think quite a few people have had luck with the 3870 IceQ. My 3850 IceQ Turbos don't seem to take well with a modded voltage BIOS but the resistor is horizontal so it should be possible  . None the less, the pencil mod looks simple enough :).
