Here is my build so far http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NcyWJx

Most likely will be gaming in 1080x1920

Can't decide between R9 290 or GTX 780...which will give me the most FPS?

If I go 780 was thinking EVGA Dual FTW ACX

and if I go 290 was thinking Sapphire Tri-x

Those seem like the best models for their card right? So which will give me the most FPS?

Thanks ;)

any ideas how it will be?

more than likely faster than 780 or 290 with lower power consumption. If nothing else, the prices of other parts will likely drop.

It just makes sense to wait it out a little longer at this point. If you had to buy today, I would take the 290

how long you think it will be before aftermarket coolers go on the cards? and when does 880 come out beginning of september?

between 290 and 780 which will give higher fps and when overclocked?

this my first build so all this is new to me

hard to say on aftermarket coolers for 880 - probably a month after release and yes it looks like september.

780's generally overclock better than 290's. as far as which is faster, it depends on the game. 780 will probably do a little better at lower resolutions like 1080 and 290 will be faster at higher 1440p 4k etc

Listen to n0x10us and wait until the 880 is released. BTW, notice n0x1ous' sig as he OWNS both the 780 AND the 290. His suggestion carries a lot of weight with me. I also own both a GTX780 (see sig below) and a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X in an overclocked FX8350 rig.

Unless you absolutely have to build today, hold off till the release of the 880. Once the NDAs (non disclosure agreements) are lifted and the 880 reviews are out there you can decide whether you want a 780, 290 or a 880.
