Which GPU cooler for gtx 480?

A used 480 is going to cost $150-200, and two acceleros will cost $90... On the other hand, you could sell the 480 for $150-200 and buy two Sapphire 7850's worth $250 each, and overclock those to near-580 speeds instead. They'll consume less power than a single 480 and you won't be relying on used hardware and voided warranties.

I'm not entirely convinced you need two cards though. Do you game at a multimonitor or 2560 wide resolution? If so you could use more VRAM

Better yet: wait for NVIDIA to release a competitor for 7850 (660 Ti most likely), and buy two of those instead or see how they affect 7850 pricing. Or just upgrade to GTX 670.

The Accelero Twin Turbo II is impressive and does very nice. got 1 on a 470 and does wonderfully

Which is better the gelid or the twin turbo ii?

I just bought this gtx 480 when newegg had them for sale for only $209 shipped. Not even two months old.

If I could sell this for $200 shipped then that would be perfect and I'll just upgrade to gtx 670. However, if not, then I'll just buy a cooler for my gtx 480 and overclock it to match gtx 580. Then, buy a used gtx 480 with decent cooler and go sli.

Thanks for the advise 🙂

I'd advise against it. But okay

If you can afford it then get a 670. If money is tight buy an accelero xtreme and oc past 580 speeds.

Just take note I just sold a gtx 480 w accelero cooler for $168. You'd be lucky to get $150 for your card.

Accelero is a extremely good cooler for a 480. When I had a 480+Accelero setup the max temp my GPU would hit was 77c and that was on a overclocked card [1.225v, 950 core, memory i forget]. The fans were on full blast...But thats not saying much, the 3 fans even on full are about 1500 rpm, they are very quiet. With stock cooling my card was roasty as hell, 98c at full load with only a tiny voltage bump [.25 at most over stock].

The downside is the cooler is HUGE. It will extend a inch off the end of the card, and it takes up 3 slots. Also be sure you cool those VRMs well with a Accelero, if anything is going to die on a Gtx480 via overvolting [or on a 560/570/580] it is the VRMs.

I have no experience with the Gelid Rev 2. But ill say it looks smaller and more compact...If it provides comparable cooling to the Accelero I would grab that, if only because the Accelero is large as hell.

My budget is very tight.

Do you guys think that the Accelero Twin Turbo II (running silent) can get my gtx 480 at 870 core, 1900 shader, possibly 200 mhz increase on memory? I have a great airflow to my case, I have an 250mm fan blowing at side panel and 2x 120mm fan blowing at front, 200mm at top exhaust air and 120mm at back. Also, I will be using mx-4 thermal paste.

If your budget is tight I would suggest selling the GTX 480 and buying a Raedon 7850 for what you could get for your 480 the extra money for one of those two HSF is not worth it when you could upgrade to a faster card with more overclocking headroom that is almost silent compared to the GTX 480. I got a 2nd card so my card would down clock at idle (a Geforce 210) because it ran so hot with dual monitors and I have excellent Airflow in my P280 (2 Sythe Sflex E's in a row pointing right at the GPU) it now idle's in the low 50's C, load is in the low 80's 100% gpu usage.

the Accelero Twin Turbo II is not good enough to run the GTX 480 at full load anywhere close to silent, Artic cooling doesn't recomend that cooler for the GTX 480 they only spec the Accelero eXtreme with 3 fans for the GTX 480. If you are overclocking I would suggest watercooling or the Accelero eXtreme, anything less is asking for trouble as the card runs so hot.

Twin Turbo II would still be much quieter and cooler than the stock cooler, so it's not exactly asking for trouble. If the intention is to get the max OC with minimal noise levels, then eXtreme is of course warranted

If you are just looking for bang for the buck, and can live with a little noise, grab a second 480 from ebay and tweak the fan profiles a bit. The stock cooler has plenty of headroom, it's just a little loud.

Accelero Xtreme Plus is an excellent cooler, much better than the Twin Turbo Pro.

My 480 with the AXP is running at about 39C idle/65C load while overclocked 🙂

Also, the AXP is very quiet. Even at maximum fan speed (2000 rpm) it is barely audible.

See here for a comparison (The Plus and Plus II are virtually identical; the 250W vs. 300W claimed cooling capability is just a marketing gimmick IMO):
