Which gf3 ti-200 to buy? 64 or 128?

Gainward Gf3 PowerPack Ti-450 (Ti-200)
3.8NS 64Meg DDR - $156 + $6 Shipping.
4NS 128Meg DDR - $188 + $6 Shipping.

Currently where i would like to buy the card from is out of stock of the 64Meg, and here comes my deep question.

I have heard that the 128Meg cards are pretty much a gimmick and wont be much use at all, since no games today or soon can make full potential of even the 64meg card.

Is this true?

Or will the 128Meg be good in the future without having the memory being a bottle neck?

Opinions please. 😉
 
the speed of the ram is a lot more important.
it's a no brainer to get the 64mb because the price and the speed of the ram are both superior.
 
No contest, the 64MB version. The additional 64MB in the 128 version will do absolutely nothing, and the 64 version has faster RAM.
 
allright, thanks for the input and so fast too.

now i gotta find some other trustworthy place tho.

i'm use to dealing with newegg.com, but thier fresh out of the 64meg.

Has anyone used MixPC.com?
or have any other ideas? (I dont particualiry like pricewatch since the companies seens kinda bogus to me)
 
Don't know where you got your info but the Gainward GF3 Ti200 Golden Sample (their fastest) has 4.0 ns RAM. Their GF3 is 3.8 ns and the Ti500 is 3.6 ns RAM. I got my 64 MB GF3 Ti200 Golden Sample from NewEgg too. Try the PNY Verto 64 MB GF3 Ti200, they have the same speed RAM only the board is black w/ silver HS, rather than red on red.
 
I am going with the Gainward because of its overclockability.

And according to most benchmarks i have read, along with user reviews, the Gainward wins my heart.
 
No don't wait...the Gf4MX which will be the same price as a Gainward Ti200 will be slower! It's lacking a pixel shader! Not only that, but the chipset is the NV17 which is a step below the GF3 which uses NV20! unless you can afford $300+ and hold off for the Gf4 Ti4600/4400
 
forgot to mention that the normal GF3 Ti200 clocks in at 175/400 but the gainward version is 200/450. Plus I've seen people get the gainward Ti200 to 250/510
 
If the RAM was the same speed on both cards and the price was closer then I'd recommend the 128 MB card.

In this case however I'd recommend the 64 MB card.
 
Tom's Hardware just posted a reveiw comparing 64's to 128's including the Gainwards.

Basically says the 128's won't help now, but the same was thought of the 16's and 32's at first.
Eventually it could be useful, but will you still have that card then or will you have upgraded
to a better gpu?

Msi's have similar overclockability I run mine at 250/530 no problem. Msi also manufactures the pny's
 
yes, but if you were MSi would you make the PNY just as good as your own version of the product? that's like toyota building a camry for Honda and it being the same thing...course they'll leave something out 🙂
