Which GF 6600GT

Seems that Newegg does not have the Leadtek 600GT PCI-E card anymore, just the SLI pack. So of these 3 other brands, which would you recommend? I'd like the card to have decent cooling for o/c.

-Asus
-EVGA
-Gigabyte
-XFX

Thanks

I really didn't hear much of evga but might give them a try. Would you recommend them over leadtek even?

any other major brands to make sure i avoid?

I have Gigabyte 6600GT, it gets the job done, and that's about it.
if you want somthing spectacular, go for 6800GT at least...

I just picked up an EVGA 6600GT AGP. The fan is constantly loud!
Unlike some other brands that monitor core temp and adjust fan speed, EVGA disables the thermal sensor on the 6600 line, though they include this feature on the top of the line cards like 6800. Wish I knew this before I bought, so I thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the noise tip on the evga. Looks like i might lean towards asus or gigabyte now. Any preference of those 2 as the 6600GT line is the one in my price range

asus is good. i've still got a perfectly functioning geforce2 gts in my crap rig that ocs to geforce2ultra speeds

I'd say gigabyte....depends on the package bundle really...anandtech has a big article on it, so read that...usually the circular HSF designs are the best...

I just heard that BFG's cooling isn't that great.
Also, I had checking out the anand article, just checking for personal opinion/experience.

I think there was a problem w/their dual fan cooler on one of their 6800GT models, which I think they have since discontinued. Their stock coolers are just fine on the rest of their cards, although I don't have firsthand experience w/the 6600 line.

id actually go for the evga despite the fan and temps. put up with it for 90 or so days and decide if you want to 'step up' (great program), and if you decided that the 6600 is a keeper then just buy a vf700 gpu cooler.

I really don't think performance wise there's a big (or any) difference between the four, it all comes down to your luck, and which chip you get, i.e if you get a great XFX chip it'll kill any 'normal' chip from the other three and vice versa.
I guess a good measure here can be fan loudness, 'cause that's one thing you allways want to rid yourself from.
XFX are known for loud fan.
Gigabyte's fan is not loud - but many of the chips, have a problem that the fan is 'scratching' against the HSF, it's nothing you can't resolve with a little 'push' with a screwdriver, but you need to consider that.

Interesting...

I would recommend the XFX as the best of the lot.

Interestingly the XFX also won top place in the CustomPC Mid-range card round up - both PCI-E and AGP.

Ive also had 3 XFX cards in my time - all have been great

I see many of you have problems with 6600GT XFX... could anyone please explain the problem?
(loud HSF yes, but almost EVERY modern grafic card ships with a loud piece of crap mounted on the GPU...)

yeah well, you have loud, and you have unbelivable annoyingly loud, which makes you wanna rip the freaking card off of the mobo and slam it in the face of the guy who sold you this. Then you calm down a little, and you get a different HSF...
ah... I hope it helps you understand the diff. 🙂

As I said, XFX HSF is unacceptably loud. But that goes with MANY other modern grafic cards.
Any other problems w XFX that I should know about?

XFX's memory freq is also a notch higher than default. (1000 MHz effective datarate)
