I know couples where the man is the spender and the woman the tightwad, and vice versa.

In general though... I'd say women... but then they have more gender specific needs than "most" men. :)

Hmmm. I bet men tend to buy fewer but more expensive items than women do.

Women walk into VS and buy this pantie for $15 or that bra for $30 and then walk next door and decide they "need" this pair of shoes for $100 from Nordstrom. Total: $145. Suppose she does this every week in one month, $580.

I click to BHphoto.com and decide I "need" a EF 70-200 F4L IS lens for $1200. Bam! I've spent double.

Going shopping, women are tops.

Buying large items like real estate, luxury items, planes, yachts and the like, men for sure.

All depends on case by case basis.

I would say the ladies tend to spend more money on clothing, although some men do buy a lot of clothes.

Guys tend to spend more on other toys: ie, electronics, cars, sports, etc

I'd say it's equal, like people said above Men tend to buy more expensive items like cars, motorcycles, etc. and women tend to buy a lot clothing and a lot of small useless stuff.

I presume that it's only useless to us men. They have some 'logic' behind purchasing it. Besides are you willing to wear the underwear your wife buys?
