Which Geforce4 has best 2D quality

I thought I read a blurb from Anand somewhere that said Elsa Gladiac was the best 2D Geforce3, but I see now that they have gone out of business.

Geforce 4 cards seem to be adhering much closer to nvidia's reference design this time around. This is probably good news because it means that your chance of having one brand have higher or lower quality 2D than another is lower. I have the PNY Ti4600 and its 2D is very good. Of course, I'm using the DVI output which doesn't seem to make much difference. I haven't hooked the HD 15 up to a high resolution CRT to see if it's better though. I've heard others saying that the 2D is superb, however.

Cheers!

2D sharpenss has nothing to do with the chipset or internal RAMDAC. It's all in the signal path between the controller and the HD15 connector. nVidia has been aware of this for some time and it appears that they have listened. 🙂

Besides, unlike a new hard disk, you can tell immediately whether the card has crappy 2D or not!

Cheers!

Gainward and Leadtek were the best of the 3's IIRC. Speaking of 2D, does anyone know the limitations of the RAMDACs? GamePC's review of the Gainward says that one of the outputs is limited to 1280x1024. Major disappointment since I wanted to run 2 monitors at 1600x1200 on a Gainward. I hope a) They're wrong, or b) this limitation doesnt affect all Ti4600's.

Gainward's nvidia cards have had pretty decent 2d quality and I would say that the latest edition should also have excellent 2d quality. I hear that nvidia has worked on their 2d for the GF4 anyway so chances are that most GF4 cards should look good in 2d.
