I looked back and couldn't find this exact question recently, so I thought I'd ask it. I'm building a new comp and need to choose my vid card. I'm pretty sure I want either a Gefore2 MX or a Geforce2 GTS 32MB to hold me over until the NV20's mid-range card. I will be running an Athlon around 1Ghz and this will be a gaming comp. It will have 256MB ram too, btw. Which MX card would be the best? and which GTS 32MB would be the best? Thanks in advance.

Well here's mine. I bought a VisionTek GTS for $150 a month ago (they make the Elsa cards). I think they're a little higher now but I find it MUCH faster than an MX. I tried the V5 5500 and although it was slower, the FSAA in flight and drive sims was great. Unfortunately I run on an overclocked AGP bus that the Voodoo did not like so I had to give it back. Guess I did the right thing now that 3Dfx is gone and no more driver support :(

Search in the hot deals section. They can be had (Geforce 2 GTS) for around $130 now. There is a coupon from Onvia which brings it to around that price I believe. Anyways, that would work well with your system. Just make sure you are using the latest Via controller drivers.

I've never heard of VisionTek. They make the Elsa cards? So they'd be the fastest 32mb GeForce2 GTS? Keep the recommendations coming.

i too had probs with the voodoo5 and my overclocked AGP bus...

i went back to my geforce DDR for a few days and then got my elsa gladiac from the Hot Deal at staples and WOW! it is soooo awesome!

Q3 arena 800x600 everything on - DDR=98.7 GeForce2 Gladiac=124.5

3dMark 1024x768 default bench - DDR=5613 geforce2 Gladiac=7615

you be the judge!

Playmaker:

Yes, VisionTek is an OEM provider for Elsa. They make their GeForce2 GTS cards. My 32mb GTS will run at 220-395 stock cooling at a 100Mhz AGP bus (5x150).

It's the VisionTek, but if you but both cards side by side you would see no difference (except the Elsa or VisionTek sticker on the GPU fan)

Alright, I think I'll go with Visiontek over Elsa since Visiontek costs less. Any other brands I should consider? or is this Visiontek the best? thanks for all your input.
