I am trying to buy a new video card. There are too many variants of Geforce cards, i have no clue which one to get. I think Geforce3 or Geforce 4 chips are too expensive, so I was going to buy a Geforce2 card. But what is the main difference btw Geforce 2 MX300, MX400, TI, and all?

I think my most graphic intensive work will be playing counterstrike, and playing DVD's on my computer. So if one of these have a DVD playback capability, it would be good.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Slim

Geforce 2 Ultra would be good for gaming. The MX versions aren't all that great, so you should stay away from them. Get at least a GTS or higher (Pro, Ti, Ultra). ATI Radeon cards are also good (7200, 7500, 8500) and they're good for watching videos and decent for gaming. Hope this helps.

It would really help if we knew your budget. If you can possibly wait, I would highly suggest waiting for the GeForce 4 Ti cards to come out and pick up a 4200 for $200. If you can't, you might want to look at a GeForce 3 Ti 200 which you can get for a round $150. If you only have $100 to spend, get a GeForce 2 Ti 200.

<< gf4 ti440? >>

Never heard of that one, nor any GF4 ti for 129.00. I assume you mean the MX440.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking about around $100 - $150 max.

So i'll stay away from MX, and weigh my options.

For $100 or so a GF2 Ti or a Radeon 7500 would be the best bet.

For an extra $25 or so you can get a GF4 MX440, which is somewhat faster then the above two options.
For about $150 you an get a Gainward GF3 Ti200, which would definitely be preferable over any of the above options, and for another $20 beyond that you can step up to a Radeon 8500 which would be a better option still.

I think i'm gonna get the VisionTek Xtasy 6564 Geforce3 TI200 card from Buy.com.

$169.59 (Free Shipping) - $50 rebate = $119.59.

Just one more question, does this card do the DVD decoding? and is DVD software included? I looked on their website, but couldn't find out whether it did or not.

Thanks guys.

Remember that what kind of card you need depends on resolution you like to play at. If you got a 19" monitor, it makes sense to get a better card than if you got a 17". My 1.5 year old geforce2 MX does Team Arena quite well at 600x800 max.
