Which Geforce 4 are you buying?

hey I am in the processing of beginning my research into building a new system and since I am extremely tired of my geforce 2 mx, i am looking at the alternaitves in the geforce line.

I am interested in what you guys are thinking, about ati's new gpus and what not. I am leaning towards a Ti 4400 or a 4200 since i cant really justify a 400 dollar vid card.

help me out here!

also
what are some other good articles along w/ anandtechs (and do any have the 4200 in them, and when is it going to be available?)

Ditto on the Radeon 8500 series.

I don't see any point in dropping even $250ish for a Ti4400, considering the minimal performance improvement over Radeon 8500. I did have a chance to play with a Ti4600 last week, and, frankly, I wasn't impressed. $400ish for a couple FPS I'll never notice and a thousand-odd 3DMarks? No thanks. I'm still not totally pleased with the DVD playback quality, either -- and I don't watch a whole lot of DVDs on the PC 🙂

For the forseeable future (perhaps, at least, until Ti4200 appears at $199) a GF3 Ti200 or Radeon 8500 (64MB) Retail is the sweet spot.

Wait until April... get your hands on a GeForce4 Ti4200... it'll be a great card and you can always OC it to Ti4600 speeds.

<< considering the minimal performance improvement over Radeon 8500 >>

The only time you'll really see and notice a performance increase is when you use AA. I'm not too much of a fan of the technology in FPS but that's basically what the GeForce4's are about... marginal speed improvement UNLESS you use AA.

I thought the GF4 series cards aren't very overclockable.

Where'd you hear that? I've read some reviews on the Gainward GeForce4 Ti4600 and people have gotten it OCed STABLE... memory 700MHz to 760MHz

i am going to be getting a 4400 for myself. maybe I can pick on up while I am here in thailand 🙂

I've been saving some money in the last couple of months to buy a GainWard GeForce4 Ti 4600...

I'm just sick and tired of my GeForce2 MX 400...

Saving up for a Ti4600 to replace my Gainward GF2 Pro which has served me very well for a couple years now. Probably just gonna go with the cheapest 4600 available since I doubt it's gonna need much of an overclock to perform well in what I use. 🙂

Why waste my money on a Nvidia product when the Matrox Parhelia will be here in a few months and smoke it? 😀

Oh, and I do mean smoke it. Not be equivalent, not be a little faster I mean literally cause the Geforce line to spontaneously combust! 😉

I've heard many say they want the GainWard Geoforce 4 Ti-4600.

Why? What is different about it then say the Visiontek.

To answer the first post, I'll be getting the Ti-4600. Just waiting till may for the new 533mz boards to show up and then I'll be building my new system 😉

i dunno know about that matrox thing, havent heard anything about it, but what i am thinking is htat the 4400 seems to have about 10% less performance that the 4600, so maybe a oc'ed 4200 will be similar to a 4400?

maybe one of the card vendors will oc it and put a nice heatsink and fan on top

thats what im hoping

btw: I am going to china in may, can you get a vid cards and stuff cheaper over there?

The only thing that I see smoking is the crack in the pipe of the Matrox users! 😉

In other words, I'll believe it when I see it!

I hope they do come out with something like that! I need 2D that has Dib Blit performance that matches the 3D performance of the Ti4600!

Cheers!
