A problem I have with 99% of the review sites is that 2D quality is never even mentioned. There will be every conceivable benchmark imaginable run, but not even a word about 2D quality. The gamer sites, including Anand's, really need to have this as a standard part of video card testing. Some of you may have seen my recent post about a Herc GF2/Pro I had for a few days. Great card! Very fast, but the 2D sucked so bad I could NEVER live with it. It actually gave me a headache after using it for awhile. :| This was my one complaint on the card. Thankfully, this was a loaner card. I would have been quite p!ssed if I had bought this thing and had to go through the trouble of returning it.
2D quality cant be benchmarked like a game can. However, it can and needs to be tested. I am in the market for a GF3 myself. The 2D is the one thing that has me hesitant on which brand to buy. If the 2D problems are still present on GF3 cards I will be truly disappointed. This issue has been around long enough that it should be eliminated. I've heard that Nvidia is putting more stringent requirements on the card manufactures. Lets hope so.
