I am having a hard time deciding on which GeForce card I should get. I can only afford a 32Mb DDR version. However, I would like one with a fan but I could live with just a heat sync. CreativeLabs has like 4 version of the card (Geforce 2, GeForce 2 Ultra, GeForce2 GTS, Annihilator2 and Annihilator 2 Ultra) then there is Asus, but to have one with the fan you gotta go with Ultra and thats $$$. What can you guys suggest. Which is best for best price? How are the MSI cards?

OK.. there are.

GeForce = Annihilator

GeForce 2 = GeForce 2 GTS = Annihilator 2

GeForce 2 Ultra = GeForce 2 GTS ULTRA

GeForce 2 MX= Slower version of GeForce 2 GTS

The one that you want is the GeForce 2 GTS. It's priced very nice now. It's a VERY FAST card almost as FAST as the ULTRA at resoultions of 640x480 through 1024x768.

Buy.com usually has some pretty good deals.

These video card BRANDS are almost the same. Go with Creative or ASUS. GTS 2 and Ultra all come with heatsink and fans.

One correction with what cookie said, The creative labs Geforce2 ultra is acctuly called Annihilator 2 ultra. Anyways, You need to realize what you want first, You say you are looking for a Geforce card, then list Geforce2 cards. HUGE difference. Completly different cards. This type of "which card is better" issue is also getting really redundant. There are many posts on which cards to get on this forum, should go read some and/or go check out some reviews on them. Anyways, I dont know what kinda budget you are on, seems like you have a tight one. The lowest possible card I would go with is the Geforce2 MX. Its the best value gaming card. Tnt2 ultra's are still priced amazingly high in my opinion at like $65, The former Geforce1 DDR cards are around $69 and Geforce2 MX is only $79. Cant beat that.

COKI: This part is meant for Coki if you read this post. I have been planning on gettign either Muskin or Crucial pc133 cas2 ram. Crucial is alot more of a deal. Anyways, could you just reply with any details about stability and speed etc etc..

One other thing Coki, You should get ridd of that mx300 sound card. Get a Sblive card(I recommend a Sblive Value), it will give your system another good 15-20 FRAMES in games. Make yer system alittle more smoother.

Crucial ram has been great so far. No problems. Running the ram at 133mhz bus at 7ns. I have (2) 128megs Crucial 7E. I'm sure this ram can do 143 or even 150 at cas2.

The prices are great now. You can order directly from crucial.

The MX300 has no more support. Is there any tests that show SBLive is better. All the posts I read say that in fact it easts CPU cycles.

I know MX300 eats CPU cycles but I think thats only in games were Aureal 3D is supported.

Thanks for replying. I know Muskin ram is pretty much the best, but their cas2 pc133 ram is $167 for 256, and crucial is $90 for 256. Its hard to decide. :p

As for MX300, I dont think there are any benchmarks that show the FPS increase. Take my word on it tho. I had a mx300 for 3 years, up untill 3 months ago. MX300 is a good card, just not a very good gaming card(even though I used it for 3 years gaming heheh). And now since Aureal died, no more support is gonna get lame. The reason mx300 takes more FPS is because it eats up CPU resources. The MX300 does not have its own processor, the Sblive Cards DO! As for Sblive eating up cpu cycles, I have never heard of that. Doesnt seem like it. They have rewviews on them somewhere on Anand I think. It has its own processor so...you save CPU resources and gain about 15-20 fps. If you arnt a gamer, I wouldnt worry about it to much. Besides the lack of driver support now, the MX300 is still a decent sound card for non gaming. Sblive Value is $39 on pricewatch.com
