Which game should I buy?

I am looking for way to spend my $30 GC from bestbuy which expires on 2/28, and I haven't bought a game in a long time. Only thing I play these days are Counter Strike and occasionally Starcraft. I am cool with FPS, and heard that Ghost Recon is a damn good game. Any other suggestions?

Ghost recon has a good multiplayer, but the single player game is almost like a rail shooter where you don't have the choice of charting your own path like you do in Operation Flashpoint. Ghost recons maps are divided by low, but unclimbable hills that divide the field, making the sniper rifle pretty useless but on the other hand, still necessary. But the multiplayer is good, although not quite as varied as Operation Flashpoint.

Any other genres you interested in?

Other than FPS, I played a lot of Starcraft, so RTS is cool with me. I am waiting for Warcraft III though, because I have always enjoyed Blizzard games. Besides FPS and RTS, the only thing I can think of is sports games. But I rather spend this on a really good FPS, because sport games gets old much too quick. I've played CS for nearly a year, and I still have an itch to play all the time.

Besides Ghost Recon, I heard Deus Ex is also very good, but that's been out for a while now, right?

Deus Ex is pretty enjoyable, I'm actually replaying it now on the hardest setting. It's flawed in a lot of ways, but you only notice because how good it actually is. If you can get the game of the year version for $12-15, definitely pick it up. There's a multiplayer too, that's pretty involved, to the extent that I haven't bothered with it, but is probably pretty rewarding if you give it a chance because you can customize your player in a bazillion ways (weapon specialty, cloaks, thief and tech skills, regeneration, the ability to pick up giant boxes and block passageways, take over turrets, see through walls, super jump, etc...!!!)

I second the Deus Ex. I love that game at the hardest setting. I may have to start it up again.

Any other games you guys would recommend? Deus Ex is pretty cheap and I can get something else with that. Any WWII or war related RTS games available that are good? Otherwise, looks like I will be getting Ghost Recon.

Command and Conquer: Renegade might be up your alley. Multiplayer, combining strategy and first person shooters.

here's a small list of inexpensive FPS games I've enjoyed witha brief description:

Thief Dark Project or Metal Age - these are oustanding FPsneaker games in that objectives are completed by "sneaking" and hiding in the shadows more that fighting your way through scores of enemies. the atmosphere of the games is outstanding, but I wouldn't reccomend them if you don't have patience. These 2 games are my all time favorites and can be purchased for under $20

Serious Sam 1 & 2 on the other hand are all kill fests. These FPS games send Wave after wave of enemies at you before levels are completed. There isn't much thinking to do here but if you crave action, you'll enjoy them. Serious Sam is only about $10 and the second encounter is only $20.

Clive Barkers Undying - Good atmosphere to the levels, playing it at night with all the lights off and a good surround sound speaker system can creep you out sometimes. you are equipped with your normal style weapons left mouse button and spells, right mouse button for dual attacks. Not sure of the cost but probably under $30.00.

Wheel of time - Nice selection of spells, good story and level design and it's cheap. $10

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - This game is awesome. i really enjoyed the single player campaign and the Multiplayer is awesome. I can't compare it to CS since I never played CS but have heard that it's as good or better. only drawback is the $50 cost but you'll get your monies worth if you play the MP.

I'll second everything richleader suggested as well and also suggest you check out www.pcgamereview.com It has many reviews on most gmaes out there.

My review of Undying.

He's working off a GC, so I doubt he'll be able to find wheel of time, I bought it for $5 from compuexpert.com, but I got bored of it rather quickly (and I'm a big fan of the books). Post half life, some of those old ones don't have the draw they used to, though the Shadar Logoth level was wonderful.

If you get Thief, which is cool, make sure it's the Gold version, they changed a lot of the things that sucked about the original release. Wonder why more gold versions don't do that? But hey, since we're into oldies, throw System Shock II on the pile. ;)

Serious Sam is fun too, but it's not for everybody. Co-op play is too easy with 4-6 people, but if you can go through it with a buddy, it's one hell of a game for the price. Death match is just silly though.

If you have a good machine (read: GF3 or Radeon 8500 with GHz+ CPU) then I'd recommend Max Payne or Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Both games are amazing, but require a lot of hardware to run! You can run them on older machines, but if you really want to crank up all the details you'll need a newer vid card.

I'd go for Medal of Honour - Allied Assault. Its the best game I've played on the PC since Half Life.

I've heard a lot of good things about Medal Of Honor, unfortunantely my sorry little ATi Rage Fury is not going to be enough. I am saving up to build a gaming system with Athlon XP and either ATi Radeon 8500 or GF3. I might just get the video card first so at least I can play games.
