hi
i plan to build a new computer in the next 2 or 3 months and i'm new at this. i'm stuck at which video card i should get... i play half-life counter strike and basic surfing but as far as i'm concerned graphics is not a big matter to me... speed and price is, so which g-force card should i go for?
the g-force TI200, the 300 , the 400MX or even the 200 Ultra? im swamped!
and also i want to watch TV but i don't want to spend over $200 for the ATI 8500... should i go for the PCI adapter or the all in wonder 7500?
thanks!

right now, i would have to say the ti200. if u get one that o/c's well... it can be pushed to ti500 levels at 2/3 the price.

Currently it's the Ti200 although you may want to hold off a weeks to get a much faster Ti4200 for only 179 bucks.

Ti 200 is a sound card...

Geforce 4 MX-440, I know it's suckville compared to the ti4400 / ti4600 but has anyone got one and what do they think of it compared to say....the GF2 GTS??

Cheers,

Corm

<< Ti 200 is a sound card... >>

I had to read that a couple of times before I realized what you were talking about. I thought you meant that the Ti200 was a sound card (like the Audigy or something). Perhaps I spend too much time on these boards...

wait for the GF4 4200 $179.00 Buy a cheat TV tuner.. seen em for as much as free (compusa last week) and as little as 199.00
a good one can be had for 59.00 anytime without waiting for a sale.

Don't know if waiting and spending more is a good plan.
First, GF3 Ti200 can now be found for under $100 ($99.99 outpost.com).
The vast majority easily overclock to GF3 Ti500 speeds, with some going higher.

So you could use that chart at Tom's to see how the $99 card at Ti500 levels compares
to the GF4 4200 at $179. Of course you could probably also overclock the GF4 4200,
but at least you can see the GF3 Ti200 @ Ti500 competes well with stock GF4 4200.

Is it worth waiting and spending 80% more for how much performance gain?

The man said he had 200.00 burning hole in his hot little hand.. the best bang for that dollar is the 4200..
the 4200 like the ti200 can be overclocked comparble to its bigger brother (TI 4600) ti 4600 level of performance for 179.00
IMHO that is a bargain. check the linky showing a 4200 running at 4600 (note not all 4200's will make it 4600) But few wont!

The radeon 8500 can be had for 120-130 bucks. It wouldn't be a bad choice, though I would go with the ti4200 myself.
