I just need some input on which FTP for Windows 2000 (other than the crappy one that comes w/ the OS) is very compatible, secure, easy to use, and has a good interface...

any suggestions?

Serv-U

User friendly and easy to setup.
Very configurable.
Allows its own user level security... nothing to do with NT user accts.
Accepts Unix style paths... setup text file with paths to directories to which you wish to give users access.
Up/Down load quota support
Access may be granted or denied by IP.
Ummm... that's all I can recall off the top my head.

I've been running ServU. I have to say, it's easy to use and you can setup many user accounts and groups. Great program.

i have used warftp, servuftp, guildftp and g6 ftp. i personally think that G6 FTP is a much better program than all of the others. it is easier to use, and does everything that the other programs do, and more. i would strongly recommend it for newbies and pros alike ;)

Compared to Serv-U, there's no way WarFTP can be classified "easy to use, and has a good interface...". It may be the most stable and has the largest feature-set, but you can pick up Serv-U in no time, and I've never personally had it crash on me.

I've had a lot of luck with ServU. When I was searching for a good shareware ftp server to try it was the only one I could find. After getting it and seeing how easy it was to use, all the others just didn't match up. It has a great interface and is stable...

Just to let everyone know, Serv-U has a vunerability even though I plan to use it if I ever setup a ftp since I'll probably only run it when it's needed.

"FTP Serv-U daemon version 2.5, is a solution for file sharing across the Internet via the FTP
protocol. This server is vulnerable to a buffer overflow that causes the FTP Server to crash
and execute arbitrary code when an attacker executes the SITE command."

The source code to hack it is freely available on the net. I don't pretend to fully understand what the above means, just know there's a small vunerability :p

And maybe 2.5e fixes that? I've had people execute SITE commands before and nothing's crashed. I guess there could still be an exploit though. Where'd you read that? I LOVE links :)

I'm running G6 FTP right now at home and it rocks. I never played with FTP or FTP servers before I tried G6 and it took like 1 hour to figure everything out-group accts, virtual links, even login messages. This thing is small, powerful, and easy enough for a Dummy like me to figure out. Not that expensive either, if you choose to pay for it.
