Which free uninstaler is best ?

Which free uninstaller is best ?
IOBIT Uninstaller ... or Advanced Uninstaller Pro ?

On my old XP system I was using UNCLEAN from
PC MAG ... but that will not work on a 64 bit OS
and as far as I know, it was never updated for the
newer operating systems.

Using the Windows program uninstaller would be the best approach. After that Revo or CCleaner are the two I would use.

Agreed with Revo and CCleaner. If you have harmful software on your computer that was previously removed with your antivirus, sometimes the remnants can be left behind. Uninstalling it with Revo will remove all traces of it from the registry from my experience. But, sometimes uninstallers are so broken that Revo can't even detect them, and in those cases CCleaner usually sees them.

I do have CCleaner on the machine as well, but never tried it as an Uninstall program.
As to the recommendations, I would really like an opinion on the 2 programs I initially
mentioned. I have IOBIT on the Win 10 64 system and so far it has done good.

Why do you want a 3rd party uninstaller?
I see no advantage to using them when the default win 10 uninstaller is fine.

Two reasons I can think for:

First is the old thought that arose back in Windows 95 that you need to have "clean registry."

I was more of a nerd back then, and I was pretty sure I could tell a difference after clearing out 1,000 or so invalid entries out of Windows 95.

But that is several builds ago, and Windows is built NOTHING like that anymore. Cleaning out the registry on a modern version of Windows has no effect on performance.

The second is what I use Revo for: it can automatically find and removed saved data/games and game/application preferences, which built-in uninstallers will never do. Most of the time this is faster than deleting these by hand.

I have always used a 3rd party tool ever since UNCLEAN from PC Magazine came out with. They seem to run faster and do a better job overall than the built in Windows Add / Remove Programs (which may be fine for most users, but not for us that want it done properly) For now, I will stay with IOBIT as it is free and does what it says it will. It is also very fast (at least on my Win 10 64 laptop) and it does show files or registry entries that may need to clean up (you are shown the list and can decide which ones you want to remove)

I've always just used Windows built in uninstaller and perhaps an uninstaller from the program you're uninstalling (like flash uninstaller). I've never have a problem and I'm not the type of user that re-installs Windows on a whim.

If you want something better I would look for an uninstaller that monitors the install like the Revo Pro version. It's the only way to get rid of every little trace.
