I was having a conversation with someone on another forum who told me the default firmware was superior to DD-WRT. I know that DD-WRT supports Optware along with a whole host of other features. Is it true that the default firmware is better than DD-WRT?

I currently use DD-WRT on a WRT54GL and I am quit satisfied with it and use the SSH server, IPtables and DNS caching.

I would definitely go with Merlin and entware rather than DD-WRT and Optware.

If Not for DD-WRT Routers like the WRT-54G would never be forgotten short time after heir release.

On the other-hand todays Wireless Routers do not benefit much (or at all ) from DD-WRT).

That said DD-WRT has numerous amount of features that are Not present in may stock firmwares.

My suggestion is to use DD-WRT if a feature is badly needed and it not in existence in the stock firmware.

The Merlin firmware for the N66U is a good choice because it is basically the Stock firmware with some minor refinement.

Well, I was doing some research and I like DD-WRT's Asia block capability, but I need to figure out how to edit it to get rid of Australia in the list. I don't want to block the good folks down under.

Does the default firmware have a built in VPN or SSH server?
