Which features either from aftermarket apps/ROMs or manufacturer customisations should be incorporated into stock Android?

I'd like to see the functionality of the Screebl app included where devices won't enter sleep when held upright. Simple but very useful.

Some sort of "Go Forward" function for system apps. Currently you can go back to a previous state but you cannot come back to the same place once you go back. (with a single click/touch) It will take up more memory and processing power than simply saving previous stages for sure, but once the OS matures and hardware becomes more able, this feature is one of the first that should be implemented.

I would like visual voicemail like on the iphone.

Umm, Google Voice? It even translates the voicemail into text so you don't even have to listen to the message if you don't want to. Plus, it's integrated into the call log in newer versions of Android. Much more useful than visual voicemail on the iphone.

Google Voice is not available in Canada, and the Visual Voice Mail Plus app on Rogers and Fido isn't very good.

Plus I'm not really that interested in Google Voice overall anyway, I really just want a good Visual Voice Mail Plus app.

I would like to be able to reach my contacts from the Dialer again. I just can not figure out why the android developers saw fit to separate the contact list from the dialer when moving from Gingerbread to ICS.

Depends what phone/rom you use. AOKP on my GS3 has the dialer and contacts as 2 separate apps, but you can still access the contacts from the dialer so there's no real reason to get into the contact app unless you use google+ groups a lot.

back to vertical scrolling through apps. I love the stock launcher, but why the hell would they change this? Its what android had on ios, and they abandoned it.

Yea i know i could use nova, but id rather not just for one reason.

So Android gives you the freedom to customize the experience to your liking with widgets, apps, and other things... and you're bitching about something like this? Install another launcher FFS. They ALL have a vertical scroll option as long as it's not the stock one. There's absolutely no reason to not have what you're looking for other than sheer laziness.

Wow. Overreacting much? I could care less about this, I'm just saying for someone who wants a completely stock experience, vertical makes much more sense, and was one advantage that android had over iOS.

Imo the change was pointless, and was an effort to look more like iOS. I have used nova in the past and it's fine. I just would prefer stock android to have these features without having to install anything extra.

Besides that, im perfectly happy with android 4.2. I love that group messaging is built in (lots of friends with iOS that like to group message - I finally can now), and I like that swype is built in and I no longer have to install swype.

Text messaging quick reply, like what you get on Bite/ChompSMS. I submit this to apple.com/feedback every month. I mean, it seems to me like it should be a basic OS feature, but none of the "big 2 1/4" of the smartphone players do it.

I tell Apple that I don't give a shit if the just outright buy Delicious at this point. If I were working for Google/Apple and in a position to do it, I would in a heartbeat. It would have been in iOS 3, FFS.

The other major thing I'd like to see in Android is an overhaul of the notification system to make it as flexible as it is on iOS. On my iPhone, I don't have to worry about looking at the notification center at all. On Android, I feel like if I set my phone down for 20 minutes, I come back to it and the menu bar is full of icons that need to be dealt with.

On a similar subject, lock screen notifications would be nice.

The ability to have vibration customizations for vibrate mode? Every email, gchat that comes in causes my phone to vibrate in 4.2+

Unacceptable.

I'm pretty sure you can customise vibrating at an app level.

I'd like to see the ability to not lock your device when near designated Wi-Fi hotspots.
