Hey All ,

Need some help over here , I don't really know much about which fans are the best to use for the thunderbird cpu's , can anyone recommend me one please ? I read a review which said to use an Alpha PFH6035 , just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions , preferably with a link to buy.

Btw I'm using an Abit KT7-RAID with a Thunderbird 1GHZ Socket A CPU.

Really appreciate any help ,

Thanx.

Well, are you going to be overclocking it? If you are, I'd reccomend getting the Alpha PAL6035. If not, you could get the Vantec Socket A Cooler, works fine for me and its only $15. 2cooltek sells both at great prices, but the 6035s are out of stock since everyone keeps buying them.

Warning to those buying hte PAL at 3dfxcool:

They are supplied with the old socket370 clip. It is not a socket A clip. You will need to modify this clip to increase clip pressure(this is to flatten out the rubber "pads" on the duron/t-bird).

Yeah the Taisol would work almost as good as the Alpha 6035. You can get the Taisol direct from them for $11 Vs $30(for the Alpha6035). We won't be able order the Alpha6035 anyway. They are sold out everywhere and word has it that they won't be available until the end of October b/c they are busy working on other project. The Taisol is rated up past 1.1 G AMD and only cost $11. Cheaper, if you buy in bulk of 5.

NONE!!! I have the huge MoFoRex HSF from 3DfxCool installed on mine with the fan removed (It runs much cooler w/o the CPU fan). The ridge has to be sanded off for it to fit flush. Here's how I cool it. 120mm (Radio Shack AC fans)65CFM case fans x2, both sucking air out of the case, one on lower front of the case and one in the upper rear. Artic Silver thermal paste. Here's the thing that makes it all work. I installed a blowhole directly in front of the CPU. I used extra long screws and installed another 120mm case fan (the fan is almost touching the CPU heatsink). This one is DC and pushes 131.5CFM directly onto the CPU and north bridge of the chipset (I removed that fan also). The 2 case fans equal the blowhole fan in CFM so the airflow begins at the CPU and is drawn out of the case at both the top and bottom. Before making these modifications my CPU ran @ 50 degrees C (@ 1G). Here are the new results w/ case mods. . .
700 Duron @ 1G
CPU Temp: 36 degrees C @ rest (41C maxed)
Case Temp: 24 degrees C
I can now reach 1.03G @ 44 / 24 (Cpu / case)!

I Spoke to a rep at Alpha, and he informed me that the PAL35T for the flipchip is identical to the 6035 except for the 4 pads on the 35T, and their corresponding holes. The rep said that the pads are easily removed. He did not mention anything about whether or not the spring clip needs to be rebent to give extra tension though. (read about that on this forum...gotta love it!!!)

the extra tension isn't needed for p3s(since the pal35t is intended for p3s ;)). But for socket A cpu's, there's a reson why alpha pal6035s are shipped now with a socket A complaint clip. :)
