Which fan is the CHIPSET fan?

Is it the one over the heatsink/CPU? Or the one literally attached to the motherboard?

The one on my mobo died... and I'm not sure if I need to get a new one. But if I do, I want to make sure I ask for the right one.

yes the chipset fan is the one on the mobo.

It's the round thing with the logo on it. Yeah, if it's dead, then you can get something like a Zalman NB47J passive heatsink. Passive meaning it doesn't have a fan so it's safer. But, I put a 40mm Coolermaster fan on the side of mine (fan I took off a coolermaster northbridge heatsink).
Although people say it's not necessary to put a fan on it, I find it's cooler to the touch (even though I don't know exact temperature difference).

I am sure your question has been already answered that it's the one on the MOBO. I think what you might want to do before you start messing with things inside your machine, is to take a look at some layouts of motherboards and what each part is inside. I am not trying to be an ass, but it's always good to know a bit more before opening up a machine.
