Which faction for second Risen playthrough?

I think I'm going to reinstall Risen for a second go. Since I never finished the final battle I'll still have some incentive to see it through to the end.

On my first playthrough I joined the swamp camp and maxed out swords. I don't think I used magic at all. I didn't do stuff like mining either, but I might have made a few swords.

What' the best course for a second playthrough? I'm assuming I'll have to go with the Inquisition. Is there another option?

you could still do most of the swamp camp quests first to max out the swords and then join the other side. (which is what i did) warriors of the order could cast some spells, and supplement the rest with scrolls. monks of course, get you all the spells after training, but the max sword skill will help.

there are only a handful of quests that's faction specific.

Is the magic side of it fun (worth getting good at)? Or is it more of a pita?

Magic side was fun, overpowered but the quests in the monastery were fun.

I enjoyed playing mage the most in this game.

I ended up putting my points in fireball and staff, you really don't need any other offence as mage.

I never finished this game. I powered through it to become a mage, and stopped playing hours after I became one. I just could not get into the magic system in Risen.

No mana regen, very limited spell selection (and even then the spells were pretty much just question of how you preferred your dps), and aiming. Yeah, aiming.

If I ever go back, I will certainly go with the bandits, or at least warrior of the order.

I already did the swamp camp thing, and it was pretty fun. Magic seems like the best way to go for another runthrough.

I actually didn't mind the melee combat at all. It was a lot of tactical hiding behind your shield and waiting for an opening. I imagine real swordplay would be a lot like that.

The only thing that bothered me was that I was never able to time that move where you stun your opponant who's getting ready to cleave you. I don't think I pulled it off once all game.

I'm on the Warriors of the Order for my first playthrough and it's really fun.

I'm mostly sword & board but I joined them anyway. Cool quests and all, you could try that!
