Which DVD-ROM can read bad DVDs?

I am looking for a DVD-ROM drive that can read any DVD regardless of its condition.

I've had a Creative branded Toshiba and a Sony. The Toshiba one has a horrible time reading about half the DVDs I rent. The Sony is much better at it, but sometimes also has problems.

I would also like one that has the ability to read CD subchannel data as well.

Digital audio output would be nice.

Speed is a secondary necessity, since I want it to last awhile before technology passes it up.

Any suggestions?

I've read nothing but good things about the new Pioneer 16x DVD drives. These seem to be the drives of choice right now for reading bad discs and overall quality. Can't go wrong. There is a tray loading and slot loading version. Essential Computer has the slot-load on special, check the hot deals forum for this thread, $110 shipped.

I think I might have an RMA on my hands. Does anyone else hear a clicking noise while reading a cd with the Pioneer DVD-ROM 10x Slot-Load?

any other opinions?

which DVD-ROM drive do you use? do you play many rental DVDs with it?
