Pioneer 343 (single disc)

Apex 5131 (multi disc)

Both are $99 right now.

Ok, I play alot of SVCD movies. These are anywhere from 2 to 4 discs per movie. I was looking at the Apex, because of the mulit disc capabilities. I was looking at the Pioneer, because it seems to be of higher quality. Although, that might only be because of the name.

The Apex only has a 90 day warranty. It's $29 for another 3 years, which I'd probably get, if I went w/ the Apex. I can't find the Pioneer's warranty info on Amazon's page.

Anyway, whatcha guys think?

You may also want to check out Sanyos dvd players. They are a bit over the $100 mark, but I am extremely happy with mine. Between the two listed, the Pioneer will probably be of higher build quality, last longer etc, but the Apex sounds pretty cool

i have tried pioneer, toshiba, panasonic and sony dvd player. So far, pioneer gives the best output for the price range of $99-$300. Havent tried Apex yet but I just dont like the design/interface, too ugly. Go with pioneer.

I have a Pioneer DVD player (forgot the model, sorry) and I think it looks good and is very easy to use. I'd say go for it.

The multi-disc idea sounds good too, though.

Either the AD500 or 1500. I always forget. I think 500 though.

It was a single disc player..played EVERYTHING I could throw at it.

Defintely get the Pioneer. I have 2 Pioneer DVD players, one being a 343, and they read everything I burn :) They are also reliable. Highly reccommended.

Bump for the Pioneer DV-343. :) I have the DV-333 and I love it! It plays VCDs and SVCDs with absolutely no problems. Also reads CD-Rs and CD-RWs without skipping.

About the Sony: just because it's a Sony doesn't mean it's better. A ton of Sonys out there don't play VCDs/SVCDs, and if they do, they may have a tough time reading them from some CD-Rs and CD-RWs. A good place to check on DVD players and (S)VCD compatibility is VCDHelp.com.
