Which DVD drive to buy??

Hey all,

My Pioneer DVD-113 appears to have problems with fast scenes when running a dvd with WinDVD 5.0, so it looks like I'll need something better. Any recommendations? I've had great luck with Toshiba drives before, and this Pioneer has also done a decent job. I've also seen a Plextor DVD drive at Newegg, and it's priced well. Any thoughts? 😕

i really like my toshiba 16x dvd drive. though i bought it quite some time ago, and it was about $60 then. There might be something better out there for the money. A lot more quite then my lite on cdrw. Can image a good size data cd in about 2 minutes i'd say. i haven't had any problems.

Just a thought here but any DVD drive should play movies ok, the jerkeness is most likely caused by something else, have you got DMA enabled by chance. DVDs only need single speed to play so the bottle neck is usualy someware else.

More and more I've come to see that's the problem. I know that extra speed on a DVD drive only improves REW/FF speeds (that sorta thing). Perhaps WinDVD needs to be replaced by PowerDVD. Darn it, I do like WinDVD's image quality. 😉 Anyone else with WinDVD have odd experiences? I have 5.0 Platinum.
