Which Dual Core Scoket 775 Board? Nvidia Chipset or Intel Chipset

Help me decide my new motherboard guys. I know intel procs are not close to AMD's but thats what I gotta use for now

Primary Considerations

1) Must support Pentium D Dual core series

2) At least 3 PCI slots

3) 16x PCI-Express graphics slot (dont need SLI)

4) Sata 2 support (minimum 2 ports)

5) Good Overclockability

6) DDR2-667 Support

7) Good price (below 120)

I am currently torn if to get a mobo based on intel 945 chipset of nvidia intel chipset. I really liked Intels HDA audio in comparison to the AC97 audio on the NF4.

Another question is that if intel does not change socket for the next gen of Pentium D's then, between the NF4 and intel chipset what board will have a better chance of getting support for the new series.

My rule of thumb is if you're running an Intel CPU, you use an Intel chipset. NF4 is quirky with AMD and I would expect the same or worse with Intel.

huh!!! NF4 is quirky with AMD ???? I had a DFI nf4 ultra-D that worked like a dream with my venice 3200. Never had single issue. If you have some specific examples then please let me know.

I'm on an Asus NF4 SLI and it's definitely quirky. Want examples? Read this forum.

It worked like a dream alright ... a nightmare. 😀

Seriously, I would go for an Intel chipset.

hmm IMHO I guess its more of a manufacturer issue rather than a chipset problem. Though I am not saying nvidia is infalliable or some thing. I am just saying this based on my experience. If nvidia is quirky with amd then that pretty much clears out the market for amd chipsets

Googoe nforce 4 data corruption and you'll get about 60,000 hits. For my own part, I am trying to resolve a Warm Boot/Blank Screen issue with an nforce board. My data is fine, I just can't see it. 🙂

Why bother with Intel. I have used Intel PCs for quite a long time but recently had problems with one of their 845 boards which kept killing my HDDs every 3-4 months. Not pretty, let me tell you. Today it seems quite clear that AMD simply runs cooler, with less power and performs far better for the money. The nForce audio is quite good actually. My new PC with a 3700+ and Asus A8N-E is running fine since several months and is blazingly fast in games at stock.

I needed a basic PC and am going in for a Sempron 64 2500 with Asus K8V-MX. All indications are it outperforms a Celeron 2.5, runs cooler and the combination is much cheaper.

The above also seems to be the general view since AMD is gaining market share.

Try to read the OP before reflexively replying with the AMD salesman's pitch, sandeep.
I almost did with my earlier post. Since the numbers 45 make me see red, I presumed he was talking about 845... my bad. Should have read properly - he was talking about 945.

The second post was more in response to quirky nF4 issue. I really could not care one way or the other - AMD or Intel, nVidia or ATI. I am quite happy with my P4 865 system also. I simply try and look for VFM. And lesser hassles in the short/medium term.

Yes, I realised you were hinting at something... so I re-read the first post and edited my post, but not quickly enough it seems... You guys are sharp. 😀

So can I assume that intel chipset board will be a better choice than a nvidia chipset board. Given my past eperience with the good oc'ability of the nf4 chipset based DFI board... will the nvidia chipset board OC better than a intel chipset based board in general or both of then would oc fine just as long as the mobo being used is a good one.

From looking around the extremeoverclocking.com forums, people recomment Intel over nvidia for intel CPUs. Best overclocker is the Asus P5WD2, but it costs a lot.

Ya P5wd2 is a tad bit expesnive for my taste. I am just looking for a decent overclock with air cooling. I was pulling 2.7GHz out of my venice 3200 on the DFI mobo. damn I miss that setup

Is it the chipset or the vendor's specific implementation of the motherboard/BIOS? I had a heck of a time with my Asus A7N8X Deluxe when I first got it, but after enough BIOS upgrades it now run smooth as silk. From my personal experience, I think Asus doesn't have the best QA in the world when it comes to BIOSes. Asus eventually gets all the bugs ironed out, as my NF2 PC is rock solid now, but it seems like early adopters often take it in the arse when it comes to their boards. Just saying that ALL the blame for a troublesome board doesn't lay with the company that made the chipset.

As sharp as a needle in the eye and twice as painful. I usually stick to the tech topics but a month ago made a few forays into Off Topic. You ought to see the a$$ ramming I received for fubbing a link. Comments such as "how'd a retard like you get to be Elite Member" and "you fooken n00b." I swear people in Off Topic live to crap on others. Just because some other forums I visit have different link codes...

I'll second anyone who says "Intel CPUs work best with Intel chipsets." Then again, "Nvidia video cards work best with Nvidia chipsets." 🙂

Just got my ASUS p5n32-SLI going. It sucks. I sold my Abit 955x AW-8 and I would take it back in a minute. My P4EE will not OC for shizzle and the first PCIe slot is dead on this board.

I will be buying a 975X the moment they are available and ABIT will get my $ again.
