I've never had any, but I would guess that due to generally being all-round fatter dogs, a Saint Bernard would have a nice marbling in the meat and give it a superior taste.

Serious reply: I've read that the chow is one of the tastier dogs. I thought the name of the breed was kinda ironic at the time.

People who eat dogs should be shot!

Why is it wrong to eat dogs but okay to eat cows and pigs? I remember people on my university campus handing out flyers condemning the eating of horses- I can almost gaurantee all of them ate meat.

This issue is the result of the historical reason for the given animal's domestication. On one hand, you have animals bred via artificial selection as pets. On the other, animals bred as livestock. The difference, while lost on the naive and ignorant, is clear to most in the developed world and, as such, results in the societal pressures to not eat dogs and to eat cows.

In addition, most individuals either own, have owned, or know someone that owns or has owned a pet, and this proximity to a domesticated pet has the same effect. In the third world and with the lower classes, the desire for survival may supercede the desire to conform with societal norms, hence, some eat domesticated pets.

You better ask people in that small town in China where 50,000 dogs were killed.

Just to set things straight, the chinese do not eat dog (except maybe in remote areas).

Depends on if you like fat or lean meat. I'm guessing something like a german shepard would be tasty since its muscular without being too thin. Although i dont speak from experience, just guessing.
