I'm giving a family a computer and have the option of two SSD's on hand to put in it. Would a Vertex III 120GB or a Mushkin Chronos 120GB be more reliable? This desktop would be used for web browsing and MS Office mostly.

I'd take a look at the total writes of each. The one with least would be, to me, more 'reliable' in the long run.

Controller: SandForce SF-2281
Flash Type: Rebranded Toshiba-TH50 MLC, 19 nm

On the Chronos incase u guys didnt know...

Personally id go with the chronos... only because ive heard a lot more people rant about OCZ ssd's more then all the other SSD's combined.

i've returned a lot of SF vertex drives. i used a chrono 480GB ssd as my steam/apps drive for a year and it's still in use in my buddy's pc since i upgraded. sooooo... my vote goes for mushkin!

The only SSD that I've had die on me was a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe.

Edit: As to the OP's question, they're both 2nd-gen SF drives, so it's pretty-much a toss-up. Either one of them could brick at any moment from a SF bug. I would recommend using a HDD over a SF SSD, if you care about reliability in any way.
