Which do you think will be faster?

So I still have not made up my mind on what to build for my next machine. I started leaning towards the Intel, but the fact that it will cost me about $120 more, I am not sure it is worth it. I am not planning on doing much OCing. I will be using the machine for CAD work, gaming (UT2k3) and downloading/editing music using Agent and Soundforge.

Yes, for CAD, and without overclocking, go AMD. You might go with the 2000 though. I have the 1800 and the 2000 both retail packages. The 2000 is noticably faster, runs cooler on the retail HSF, and wasn't that much more. Also, the FPU on the AMD will really kill the Intel in CAD.

😉 I'd go AMD too, if you really don't want to o/c then AthlonXP is much better for the tasks you specify. Although P4's do run cooler and therefore quieter (but then how many fans do most people have insode their case). P4's Skt478 is certainly much better all-round than SktA alternatives and cost the sametoo, plus SktA is becoming the budget end of AMD's plans while P4 should stay with Skt478 for MUCH longer.
