Turning the volume on the speakers up and the volume on the comp down or the volume on the speakers down and the volume on the sound up¿?

I prefer to keep my system volume consistent and fiddle around with the speaker volume.

If I put my system volume up past 75%, I get awful buzzing from my speakers (SB Audigy and Boston Accoustics Digital BA7500G).

The volume out from your system (to your speakers/amp) should be constant or you may experience distortion/crackling, etc...

In a perfect world you should use a non-amplified (line level) output from you system and adjust the volume at your amp/speakers. If you have to use a amplified output then (IMHO & experience) it should never be past half way (or it will distort).
