compaq is replacing my computer under warranty (they are doing the right thing, this has been a disaster) and the new machine will have a 128mb ati radeon 9800. my old machine has the 128mb gf4 ti 4600 video card. i sort of have an option which to keep, ideally am hoping to keep the ati as it is coming from the factory that way.

any views on which performs better? thanks.

Ti4600 vs Radeon 9800
DX8 vs DX 9
Worse perforamnce vs superior performance
Worse Anti-Aliasing vs Superior anti-aliasing
Older vs newer
looser WINNNER

so even the non-pro version of the 9800 is a better performer than the ti4600? just want to be sure, gracias...

^^ Yes.

For that matter, the 9700 Pro is better than the 4600 :) Just overclock the 9800 to Pro speeds and then you'll really be ahead of the game

thanks for the replies gang, looks like i'm in good shape with the 9800. i'll just send the ti4600 packing with the old machine which i won't miss a bit after having 4 mb's and 2 cpu's replaced....

You will definitely see a big improvement with the Radeon card over the GF4. Nice image quality, and much faster performance.
