Which distro to run on this laptop?!

HP ZE4427WM (assuming its the one from the ze4400 series).

Anyways, I tried RH 9 and the video doesn't work. It keeps saying no screen found, but I've tried every damn monitor setting. Then I tried my beloved FreeBSd and the NIC isn't supported. i hate to run xp on it, i might tyurn to mandrake.

any other advice?

I'm fresh out of the fire, of linux installation that is, so maybe I can lend a hand, but do you have any more details about the hardware. (Try running lspci for starters.

Not being able to start X won't be a redhat specific thing.

Sounds like you're possibly trying to load the wrong display driver (or something similar).

However, I suppose you could try Knoppix. And if it works well do a hard disk install.
