Which distributed computing application for me?

Please forgive a newbie question:

I'd like to join Team Anandtech's efforts. Which distributed computing application would most benefit from my setup? I've tried SETI but it seems to be mainly processor-limited. Are there other applications which would benefit more from my RAM and hard drive?

My setup:
Athlon 1800+
1.5g 2700-CAS2 RAM
15k SCSI drive

Thanks

I am biased becuase I am hooked on SETI. All DC projects rely on the processor to a point, but FSB also helps with performance. Hard-drive performance doesn't affect anything from what I have seen, heard, or have been told, mainly becuase the programs don't require fast reading and writing to the drive to be effective. But, I would try SETI again, but use the command line client if you havn't already and watch it churn out the work units. 😀

My 2 cents

I would say SETI too 😉

It's a nice processor an with pc2700 ram running cas. 2 , you should be able to get wu times around 3 1/2 hours

even better with FSB overclocking 😀

That is if you're running the command line client NOT the Screensaver ( while looking pretty it does i fact SLOW everything down 🙁 )

Thanks, guys. I'm setting up CLI SETI right now. Wish me luck!

I've been running my FSB at 136 MHz, limited by my RadeonLE 🙁 The poor thing's already OC'ed to "real" Radeon speeds since XP doesn't know the difference between 'em.

😀

I wish you luck ! 😉

Also, welcome to the TeAm...no matter what DC project you decide to run! 😀

Welcome to the TeAm Yamyam! 🙂
Good luck with the SETI CLI - you'll see a marked improvement over the GUI.
FYI, my XP 1800+ averages about 6.7 SETI WUs/day (with light non-SETI usage).

Thanks for the comments. I've been running for about a day now, and I've signed onto Team Anandtech. Looks like I'm getting about 3.5 hrs/WU, averaged over 6 samples.
